Our Story
It all started at an auction in 1967…
In 1967 the Carney family purchased the mill at auction by John Carney. Tom & Katty Carney stepped up when Tom’s brother, John, needed help running the new business. Tom was already following a family tradition of working on the railroad. So Katty & their six kids started working at the mill. By the time John was 18 years old, he was running the operation. In the 1970’s, he transitioned the focus from swine & dairy feed to horse feeds. Seeing even more changes to our area, John decided to fill the need of manufacturing wild bird seed. At the time there was 13 feed mills in Clermont County, they all laughed at that Carney boy & said he did not know what he was doing…they all are gone now!!
In 1990, Carney’s opened the first feed drive-thru in our area, meeting the need for convenience that our customers were looking for! By the late 1990’s, John sons, Tim & John Jr., had joined the team. They have become irreplaceable team members. Tim is now vice president of manufacturing, managing the team in the mill & making sure your favorite feeds are to the standard you expect! John Jr. is now vice president of sales & marketing & is our main nutrition specialist. He can help you target the needs of your animals & design a specific program to meet those needs.
